Chautala Clan’s Electoral Battle in Hisar: A Family Saga Unfolds

top-news

In the upcoming Lok Sabha elections for the Hisar seat in Haryana, the political landscape is set for an intriguing showdown within the Chautala clan. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) has nominated Sunaina Chautala, the general secretary of the party’s women’s wing, to contest the seat. Sunaina, married to Ravi Chautala, represents the younger generation of the family, with ties to late Partap Singh Chautala, one of the sons of former Deputy Prime Minister Devi Lal.

Opposing her is Ranjit Singh Chautala, the elder son of Devi Lal, representing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Adding to the familial rivalry, the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) has put forth Naina Chautala, the wife of JJP president Ajay Singh Chautala. Ajay, another scion of the Chautala lineage, is the son of former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala.

This electoral battleground in Hisar symbolizes a contest between two daughters-in-law and a father-in-law, all hailing from the illustrious Chautala dynasty. The Congress is yet to reveal its candidate for this seat, adding further anticipation to this political saga.

The history of the Chautala family is marked by separations and realignments. Ajay Chautala and his son Dushyant Chautala parted ways from the INLD in 2018 to establish the JJP. In 2019, the JJP allied with the BJP to form the government in Haryana but ended the alliance recently. Dushyant, a former deputy chief minister, had previously held the Hisar Lok Sabha seat but lost it in 2019 to Brijendra Singh, who has since joined the Congress and is a key contender for the party’s nomination.

Naina Chautala, a two-time MLA from Badhra constituency, brings her political experience to the table, while Ranjit Chautala’s ministerial background under his father’s leadership adds depth to his candidacy. Sunaina Chautala’s leadership within the INLD’s women’s wing further underscores the family’s political legacy.

The electoral battle in Hisar not only reflects the internal dynamics of the Chautala clan but also holds significance in shaping the political landscape of Haryana. With all eyes on this high-stakes contest, the Hisar Lok Sabha seat promises to be a focal point of political intrigue and familial rivalry in the upcoming elections.
